How do you Micropause?

In midlife, establishing daily wellness rituals can contribute significantly to well-being. Can you share a personal daily ritual or self-care practice that has had a positive impact on your overall wellness during perimenopause or menopause?

I love my bedtime routine! Having a ritual each night helps my body know that it's time for bed, and getting quality sleep is a priority for me.  I enjoy taking time to pamper myself. I have multi-step skincare routine, then I put on cuticle oil and hand lotion, sometimes do a hair treatment, and put on comfy pajamas (nothing too hot!)

Rediscovering Passion

Many people find a renewed sense of passion and purpose in midlife. Can you share a specific experience where you rediscovered a passion or pursued a new interest during this stage of life?

When I turned 50, I decided I was going to step out of my comfort zone and try new hobbies I'd never done before. I joined a basketball league, signed up for a summer Pickleball clinic, and took golf lessons! My goal was to have fun and not care about how good I was, and I had a blast trying everything. A few months ago I renewed my subscription to Duolingo to restart my Spanish lessons. You're never going to be as young as you are right now, so just try something new!

Relationship Dynamics

Midlife often brings shifts in relationships, be it with partners, friends, or family. How have your relationships evolved, and what insights can you offer on maintaining and strengthening connections during this transformative period?

Studies have shown that social connections can contribute to longevity, so it is important to be part of a community. Many of us have busy lives with work, kids, or other obligations, and it's easy to let too much time pass by without connecting with those we love. I've found friendship is about quality over quantity during this phase of life. My friends and I make an effort to get together on a regular basis to celebrate birthdays, meet for coffee, or even go away for the weekend if we can swing it! Make your relationships a priority, and make time for them. Tell people how you feel about them now, we can't take time for granted!

Embracing Body Positivity

Midlife often challenges societal standards of beauty. How have you embraced body positivity and self-love, and what practices or perspectives have helped you navigate changes in body image during this stage of life?

I've always tried to stay active, but my goal in my 20's and 30's was all about the shape of my body. As I age, I understand how important it is to take care of my body for overall health. I want to be strong, not skinny. I want to take care of my bones. I appreciate my body for what it can do, not for what it looks like. Legs with cellulite can still take the dog for a walk or climb the stairs! I have a teenage daughter, so I want to model body positivity. I stress the importance of staying active to be strong, and eating healthy to fuel your body.
